It has been 26 years since Babylon 5 first premiered in the U.S television on January 26, 1994
and fans have loved it ever since.


A sci-fi series with a fandom as dedicated
as any of Doctor Who or Star Trek, Babylon 5 was an extremely intriguing space series created and
written by J. Michael Straczynski. A show that ran for five seasons, it offered
a glimpse at the future unlike anything seen or read before.

Michael Straczynski’s epic sci-fi saga not only transformed
the face of the TV genre, but also made a significant impact on all the sci-fi
TV content we see today.


In addition to the impact it made on initial online
folks with its remarkable story-telling and performances, Babylon 5 also created legends out of its cast of characters that
have been celebrated and loved till this day.

Now that it’s been over a decade since the show ended in
1998, fans are wondering what happened to the main cast of Babylon 5 and how they have been doing since then. Just to warn
you, the answers may disappoint you!


Yes, you guessed it right, majority of them have passed away…

Mira
Furlan (Minbari Ambassador Delenn)

Mira played the character Delenn in the sci-fi series Babylon 5. She remained a part of the
show for five years until it ended in 1998.

Since then, she has appeared in
several movies including Just Add Magic
(2016),
Lantern City (2014), America,
Here We Come (1014), Surviving Me: The Nine Circles of Sophie”
and a popular
TV series “Lost.”

She passed away yesterday, on Wednesday, 20th
January.


The cause of her death is unknown, but Babylon 5 cast and crew speculate that her health had been deteriorating
for some time.

creator, J. Michael Straczynski paid a tribute in a heartfelt Twitter post, where
he wrote, “Mira was a good and kind woman, a stunningly talented performer, and
a friend to everyone in the cast and crew of ‘Babylon 5,’ and we are all
devastated by the news,” he wrote. “The cast members with whom she was
especially close since the show’s end will need room to process this moment, so
please be gentle if they are unresponsive for a time. We have been down this
road too often, and it only gets harder.”

Mira Furlan is survived by her husband, Goran Gajic – a
Siberian theatre and Television director and their son, Marko Lav Gajic.


Richard
Biggs (Dr. Stephen Franklin) died mysteriously at the age of 44

After graduating from the USC School of Theatre, Richard
Biggs initiated his acting career with several minor roles in TV before landing
a major role in the daytime drama “Days of Our Lives” as Marcus.


In Babylon 5, he starred as Dr. Stephen, a
passionate man who was dedicated to saving lives. He also made a guest
appearance in Crusade, a Babylon 5 spinoff series.

Biggs died unexpectedly in May, 2004 because of an aortic
tear. He was only 44 years old. His TV shows “Any Day Now” and “Strong
Medicine”
were still airing at the time of his death. His last acting
credit included a guest appearance on “Drake
& Josh
,” a famous Nickelodeon series.


Stephen

Stephen landed a career-breakthrough role in Animal house as Flunder in the late
1970s. He reprised his role in the series’ spinoff, “Delta House,” and from there he continued getting other major TV
roles.


He starred as Dr. Elliot Axelrod in the popular series St. Elsewhere. In 1990s, he starred in Babylon 5. He played the character
“Cutto” throughout the five seasons of the series, and also reprised his role
in the movie Thirdsapce.

Furst appeared on TV prominently throughout the 1990s till
the mid-2000s. He starred in several movies and television series, including Buzz Lightyear. He suffered several
life-long health issues, which drove him to become a representative of the American
Diabetes and Heart Association.

actor died in 2017 at the age of 63 due to diabetes-related complications as a cause of death.


Andreas
Katsulas (G’Kar)

Andreas Katsulas initiated his acting career with the role
in Another world in 1980s. By the end
of 1980s, he started receiving major roles in high-budget movies, such as Some to Watch Over and The Sicilian.


By 1990s, he became a
well-known American actor of movies and TV series. In 1993, Katsulas was
remarkable in The Fugitive with his
role as one-armed villain, Sykes. He starred in Babylon 5 as G’Kar, and soon it became a breakthrough role of his
career.


Katsulas’ G’Kar was equally funny, tragic, strange, and
inspiring. He reprised his role in TV-movie called “The Legend of the Rangers,” and also starred in other prominent
roles including Star Trek: Enterprise
and NYPD Blue.


Katsulas was a lifelong smoker. He was diagnosed with lung
cancer and died in February 2006 at the age of 59.


Jerry

Initially, Jerry Doyle was a pilot and then a stockbroker by
profession; he developed his interest in acting in the late 1980s and moved to
Los Angeles in pursuit of becoming an actor. He was 30 years old at that time.


Soon, he started appearing as guest character in Moonlight and Homefront. He grabbed a role in Babylon 5 as Michael Garibaldi, the Chief of Security.


He played
the role with both swag and humor. He also reprised his role in Babylon 5 movie versions, The River of Souls and A Call to Arms.


He also appeared in several TV shows including NYPD Blue and JAG. He initiated his own radio program, The Jerry Doyle show in 2001. He passed away unexpectedly in 2016
at the age of 60.
