The new comedy special
of Dave Chappelle is anything but something that you can laugh over. It comes
with a disclaimer that says, “Normally I wouldn’t show you something so
unrefined, I hope you understand.”
His special is titled
8:46 which is a clear reference to the murder of George Floyd by the police
officer who cut off his oxygen supply for exactly 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
Chappelle discusses the
brutalities that minorities in America have to face. The show gets intense with
each minute as he expresses his anger and frustration over the lack of action
by the government. He names other black men like Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner,
and Philando Castile who have been killed by the police over the last few years
and have faced zero accountability.
He also urged the
celebrities to use their platforms to speak against racism but also added that
whether famous people rise against this injustice or not, the public outcry is
enough to demand justice. “This is the
streets talking for themselves,” he says. It’s time to listen.”
