Jessie J has been diagnosed with Meniere’s disease.

The ‘Price Tag’ singer took to Instagram Live to share her Instagram story with the fans. “I woke up and felt like I was completely deaf in my right ear, couldn’t walk in a straight line. Basically, I got told I had Meniere’s syndrome,” she said. The 32-year-old English artist spoke about how she had to go to the hospital on Christmas Eve after experiencing problems with her hearing and balance.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Meniere’s disease is a disorder that affects the inner ear. As a result, it causes dizzy spells and hearing loss. Mostly, the syndrome is known to affect only one ear and you become temporary deaf.

What’s scary about this disease is that it doesn’t discriminate based on age, which means everyone is at risk be it young children, adults, or older people. An abnormal fluid can cause it in the inner ear. Other factors that can result in Meniere’s disease are an abnormal immune response, viral infection, and genetic predisposition.

Here are some of the symptoms of Meniere’s disease.

Recurring Vertigo – Vertigo is essentially a spinning sensation that starts and stops spontaneously. The spell can hit you at any time and lasts for about 20 minutes to several hours. Severe vertigo can often also lead to nausea.

Hearing Loss – Another symptom is hearing loss. This might come and go if you’re in the early stages. In some people, Meniere’s disease can lead to permanent loss of hearing.

Ringing in the Ear – Patients might also experience a ringing, hissing, or whistling sound in their ear. This condition is known as tinnitus.

Fullness in the Ear – People who have Meniere’s disease can sometimes feel pressure in their ears.

These are some of the symptoms of this chronic condition. If left unchecked, the disease can interrupt the patient’s life, causing unnecessary stress and fatigue. Along with the permanent loss of hearing, the patient is also at risk of falls and accidents because of vertigo.

The good news is that various treatments for the disease can help the patient manage the symptoms and minimize the long-term effects on their lives.

Thankfully, Jessie J also went to the hospital early and her doctors were quick to figure out what was wrong with her. Now she’s doing much better. In the video, she said, “I got put in the right medicine,” which made a huge difference.

“It could be way worse. It is what it is. I’m super grateful for my health. It just threw me off. On Christmas Eve, I was in the ear hospital going ‘what is going on?’ But I’m grateful I went early and they worked out what it was really quick,” said the ‘Bang Bang’ singer.

Jessie J was planning to do a Christmas show on her Instagram live that she had to cancel because of her health condition. While she’s back to singing, she said in her video snippet that “You can hear I’m not really good at singing loud yet, but I just miss singing so much… Now’s the first time I’ve been able to sing and bear it.”

We’re super glad that Jessie J is doing so much better. We’re sure all her fans must have been praying for her speedy recovery and supporting her through these tough times. The singer also that that, “I know that a lot of people suffer from it and I’ve actually had a lot of people reach out to me and give me great advice, so I’ve just been laying low in silence.”

Jessie J posted a picture on her Instagram captioned “grateful” on the same day she shared the news of her diagnosis to lessen the worry of all her fans.

The picture was accompanied by a long description of her day. She wrote, “I am now watching Queens Gambit with my finger in my ear. I’ve done the first episode 4 times because I have zero focus in my ear sound like someone crawled in and turned a hairdryer on.” The singer ended her post by saying, “Sending LOVE to everyone who needs it, is or isn’t alone. We all need some love.” She’s on point with that one.

We hope Jessie J a speedy recovery and hope to see her on stage, singing her heart out real soon. We miss seeing her perform and much as she misses singing for her fans.
