Melania Trump, the
First Lady is different, as she doesn’t fit the standards set by her immensely
charming and strong predecessor, Michelle. Here are some of the lesser-known
facts about a slightly off but nonetheless interesting First Lady of USA:

She was born to parents Amalija and
Viktor Knavs.

Her father was a manager of car and motorcycle dealership for the cars owned by the state. They were also members of the Slovenian Communist Party! She also has
one sister and one half-brother from her father’s previous marriage.
Apparently, Melania is the closest to her sister, who was also the maid of honor at
her wedding.

She comes from a humble background and
adopted her mother’s fashion sense from a young age.

She studied architecture for a year, only to realize her passion lies in
modeling; so she left he
r education midway to pursue a career in modeling. This
required her to move from Slovenia to Milan and Paris.

With 5’11 height, she
was destined to model. Quite early on in her career, she managed to sign
international modeling contracts. She was also awarded the 1992 “Look of the Year” prestige. As luck
would have it, she signed a modeling agency owned by Donald’s Trump’s friend.
Work brought her to New York where she bagged the privilege to work with Vanity
Fair and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

She came to the USA with a working visa
and soon after her marriage, she got American citizenship.

She
met Trump in 1996 and got engaged in 2004. They got married soon after with many
famous people in attendance. It was his third and her first marriage. From Bill
Clinton to Kelly Ripa, the wedding was filled with A-Listers.
It, in fact, received a
lot of attention from the media and paparazzi. She wore a Christian Dior dress
that took 550 hours to complete.

About her citizenship,
which she received one year after her marriage to Donald Trump, she said: “
I followed the law. I never thought to stay
here without papers. I had a visa, I traveled every few months back to the
country to Slovenia to stamp the visa. I came back, I applied for the green
card, I applied for the citizenship later on after many years of green card. So
I went by the system, I went by the law. And you should do that, you should not
just say let me stay here and whatever happens, happens.”

The
couple welcomed their first child together in 2006 – named Barron William Trump

Despite being a working
mother, she was actually really hands-on. She didn’t have a nanny as she
believed in doing everything herself.

She valued the time she spent with her child and wanted to ensure he
received undivided attention.

Melania is also an ambassador for the
Goodwill and the American Red Cross
.

This is something not
many people highlight while discussing her philanthropic work. She works with
the Martha Graham Dance Company as well as with Love Our Children USA. Unlike
previous First Ladies, Melania doesn’t use her privilege to speak about
specific causes.

She is one of the First Ladies in
history to be born outside of the United States.

She was also born during the rule of Marshal Josip Tito in Yugoslavia.

One interesting thing
that we’ve all noticed is how she stays away from the spotlight surprisingly well even after becoming the First Lady. And the
minimum appearances that she does make, you can clearly see her detached from her
husband’s politics.
