Audience: Hollywood can’t make a love story out of a
lockdown situation!
Hollywood: Say less!
Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor are collaborating for the
upcoming pandemic project, taking us away from the Zoom screens for a short
while and into the streets of London. Directed by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinder
creator), Lock down is schedule to
stream on HBO Max on 14th January.
The film tells the story of a quarrelling couple Linda
(Hathaway) and Paxton (Ejifor) who are forced to live together against their
will, as the city enforces a lockdown.
They are stuck inside an apartment of
London, but as the trailer suggests, the couple will eventually find love in
the most shocking way.
The film also stars Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dule Hill,
Jazmyn Simon and Stephen Merchant, as well as Ben Stiller and Ben Kingsley. In
the first trailer of the movie, Linda and Paxton charts out the plan to steal
the rarest diamond from the city’s most popular jewelry store. “What can go
wrong?” asks Linda the exact same question we have all been wondering these
days.
While talking to a media organization, Anne Hathaway shared
her experience and feelings about filming a movie in the midst of global
pandemic. “The sheer act of making it, of doing something so collaborative and
audacious made us all very focused and open – and strangely free,” she said.
“Like the odds were so against us anyway that it made me want to lean into the
exhilaration and take risks with my performance.”
She also shared that how the crew members and staff were
extremely cautious about wearing a mask on the set. “Even when we were shooting
in the hot rooms and they were carrying heavy camera and lighting equipment
they were always, always masked,” she added. “Their professionalism helped keep
me safe, and I was and am incredibly grateful to them.”
Our
Call: Stream it! Judging by the trailer of Locked Down, this rom-com flick looks incredibly promising, especially
because of its lockdown premise. The film offers a unique take on romance amid
chaotic situation, when all we hear is the increasing reports of divorces and
break ups since the start of the pandemic.
