The much-delayed, live-action movie finally released last week to a lot of criticism from the adult audience. Currently, Hollywood is hellbent on capitalizing on the adult nerd’s nostalgia. However, Sonic: The Hedgehog has taken a different approach. The movie only caters to children which is why the movie received mixed reviews on its opening day. Despite having some good moments, the movie failed to connect with the adult audience.
However, that didn’t stop it from destroying the box office collections. With an international opening of $43 million, the Paramount Sega video game adaptation captured the number one spot this weekend at approximately $100 million!
Previously, Detective Pikachu held the record for the biggest three-day opening weekend for a video game movie. Sonic has surpassed this record and established itself at the top position. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider holds the third position on the list whereas Angry Birds is on the fourth spot.
