Brayden Smith, who has been a five-time champion on ‘Jeopardy!’ (Brayden Smith Jeopardy), passed away on February 5th at the young age of 24. The
contestant also appeared in one of the last shows hosted by late Alex Trebek, often
described as “Alex’s Last Great Champions.”
According to an obituary published on the Las Vegas Review
Journal, Smith died on February 5 in his residence in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We are heartbroken to share that our dear Brayden Smith
recently passed away unexpectedly,” said his mother, Debbie Smith, while
sharing her grief of his son’s untimely passing on Twitter. “We are so grateful
that Brayden was able to live out his dream on jeopardy.”
The official account of ‘Jeopardy!’ retweeted her statement
and added, “The JEOPARDY! Family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brayden
Smith. He was kind, funny and absolute brilliant. Our deepest condolences go
out to Brayden’s family. He will be missed.”
Brayden Smith’s cause of death death hasn’t been made public yet. He hadn’t
have any prior health issues which were known to public. However, his untimely
death has many fans wondering if he died of suicide. No official statement has
been received from his family regarding the cause of his death. So, we advise
you to refrain from jumping to conclusions until we receive full details about
his death.
Last year, the 24-year old graduated in Economics from the
University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was planning to enroll himself in law
school and become an attorney for the Federal government but, unfortunately, he
passed away unexpectedly on Friday. He also worked as an intern at the
prestigious Cato Institute in Washington, D.C, and his job was to research
about criminal justice reform issues.
Smith last participated in a long-running game show in
December 2o2o. Prior to the death of long-time host Trebek – who died on
November 8th due to pancreatic cancer at the age of 80– the young
contestant maintained a five-time winning streak and earned more than $115,000.
“Brayden was hailed on social media as ‘Alex’s Last Great
Champion,’ He was looking forward to competing in the show’s Tournament of
Champions,” the obituary states.
“I’m really grateful for everything, all the opportunities
that I had,” Smith said on the game show Jeopardy!
After losing his winning streak. “I was glad that I was able to show what I was
capable of.”
While talking to a media organization in January after the
death of Trebek, Smith had said, “The best part of it for me was spending time
with him. To finally be on stage with somebody that I have been seen five
nights a week every week for over a decade was really a dream come true.”
