David Fincher has given “The
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” a very unique Hollywood treatment, making it fiercer
than the original version.
Based on the bestselling crime novel of the same name written
by Stieg Larsson, The Girl with the
Dragon Tattoo is sexier, sleeker, and fiercer than its Swedish version.
It’s an overwhelmingly bold movie loaded with hard-to-take violent sequences,
including horrifying rape scenes, torture, and highly disturbing crime scenes.

An investigative journalist in Stockholm, Mikael Blomkvist
(played by Daniel Craig) calls a shady industrialist (played by Christopher
Plummer) from a faraway island to solve the mystery about his missing niece. As
the movie progresses, viewers uncover the truth behind Sweden’s evil past of
Nazi sympathizers and the mysteries behind several serial killings in the country. Blomkvist works together with his ridiculously serious assistant,
Lisbeth Salander (played by Rooney Mara), a genius computer hacker with a
dragon tattoo.
Rooney Mara has done extremely well with her character as
Lisbeth. She had a short cameo in Fincher’s The
Social Network where she appeared as Mark Zuckerberg’s crazy ex-girlfriend
Erica. But in the Girl with Dragon Tattoo,
she is incredibly fierce, lethal, badass and has an irresistible sexual
presence is likely to get her best actress Oscar nomination.

Rooney’s performance in the movie rightly portrays Lisbeth’s
anger when she was raped and abused by men, and how she’s motivated to help
Blomkvist in his quest of uncovering the truth behind misogynist crimes.
Despite being tough and aggressive, Lisbeth eventually melts her
“take-no-prisoners” attitude and falls in love with Blomkvist, mostly because
of the way he talks with his daughter.
Do you know, Rooney Mara had to undergo several changes in
her appearance to become Lisbeth Salander? She had to dye her hair black and
trim it into jagged points, making it look like that she cut it herself.

Fincher described that the casting of Lisbeth was way too
complicated, as many prominent candidates were taken into consideration for this
role, such as Eva Green, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Emma Watson, and
Scarlett Johansson. But Fincher preferred to settle with Rooney Mara, mainly
because of her youthful appearance fitting perfectly with the character.
There was never any doubt about Fincher’s directorial skills
and he has been remarkable with his job. Despite having all the material right
in the middle of his plate, he still preferred to mold the look of this
already-known story with a darker, more violent edge.
Loaded with violence, mysteries and thrills, A girl with the Dragon Tattoo is among new movies of Netflix that will
definitely creep under your skin and stay there for a long period of time,
that’s for sure!
