Ever since the streaming giant decided to fill our homepage
with the sloppy drama of the royal family, and the reality show “Bling Empire”
inspired by movie “Crazy Rich Asians”, entertainment-seekers have been left
high and dry on the documentary department.
But not anymore!
For those looking for some serious true-crime content, the
streaming giant has something coming up for you! Netflix’s latest docu-series
is delving into a tragic 2013 case, involving a young student who vanished into
thin air before being found dead in a water tank of infamous Cecil Hotel in Los
Angel.
And while it may sound like a story that everybody knows
about, thousands of conspiracy theories and controversies made it a
most-talked-about case of that time.
But here’s the thing: does this latest documentary tell the
entire truth about the girl’s disappearance? Well, it’s hard to say…
Scroll down and discover the unknown truth about Alisa Lam’s
mysterious disappearance from the Netflix’s new documentary series.
Who was
Elisa Lam? What is the truth behind her vanishing at the Cecil Hotel?
Elisa Lam was a 21 year old Canadian student, enrolled at
the University of British Columbia. She was a daughter of immigrants from Hong
Kong.
About eight years ago, she went on a solo trip to
California. She checked alone into the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. For some
strange reason, she decided to stay in a hotel known for housing the country’s
most notorious serial killers such as Richard Ramirez (The Night Stalker).
Cecil Hotel has a history of several tragic crime scenes and
many notorious serial killers used to reside in this hotel.
Initially, she was given a shared room on the fifth floor.
But two days later, she moved to a separate room, citing “certain odd behavior”
as the reason behind the transition.
One day, she vanished into thin air, leaving behind all of
her possessions including her passport and wallet. Few weeks later, hotel
workers found her dead body in a water tank on the rooftop, after the visitors
started complaining about low water pressure and water discoloration issues.
It’s been eight years since the LAPD released the mysterious
CCTV footage of the deceased girl at the hotel, which continues to gain
millions of views online to date.
You can watch that footage here:
True-crime lovers started questioning the absurdity behind
the incident. How was Elisa able to access a staff-only area? What was the
reason behind her strange behavior with her roommates? How did she climb into
the water tank and close the door behind her?
There are thousands of controversies and theories which are
still lingering online since its inception about eight years ago.
We are eager to see how Netflix’s upcoming documentary will
uncover the truth behind the country’s most mysterious and exceptionally
unsettling case of Elisa Lam.
“Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel” is slated to
release on Netflix on 10th February, 2021.
