TikTok can make or break the stars!

One of TikTok’s most followed and famous stars,
Charli D’Amelio (a 16-year-old American dancer, also named the second
highest-earning TikTok personality by Forbes and ranked on Fortune’s 40 Under
40 list in 2020), instantly landed herself in hot waters after uploading a
video that sparked outrage among people and made her lose 1 million followers.

Woah! A single video cost her a lot of followers
in a single day, which probably took her around tons of videos to gain the same
number of followers in years.

In late 2018, she started posting content actively
on the video-sharing application, where she danced on hit and trending songs on
the platform. She quickly garnered a large following and subsequently became
the most-followed star on the application, surpassing Loren Gray. As of
November 2020, she had over 98 million followers on TikTok.

But it seems like she has now pulled a reverse
gear…

On one fine day, she uploaded an ill-fated video
that dragged her down from the heights of popularity! So, what exactly was in
that video that cost her 1 million followers? What made her fans upset? Does
she really deserve this backlash? Or, who is Charlie D’Amelio? Who is Dixie Damelio?

Well, to satisfy your curiosity, we’re going to
dissect that problematic video to explain what exactly went wrong:

The entire chaos stemmed from a recent family
video she appeared in, where popular beauty guru and fellow TikTok star, James
Charles, was invited over to the D’Amelio household for a dinner.

In the dinner video, the TikTok star Charli D’Amelio can be seen
having dinner alongside her sister, Dixie, parents Marc and Heidi, and the
guest James Charles. There were exactly two controversial moments that didn’t sit
well with the fans, hence igniting the backlash!

One of the controversies
involved the star whining about how she lacks 500,000 followers despite having
an astonishing 98.6 million followers on the platform in a live session. “I wish I had more time. Imagine if I hit 100 million a year after
hitting 1 million,” she was seen complaining to her dinner guest, James
Charlie… “Was the 95 million not enough
for you? James’ response was sarcastic, but he wasn’t the only who found
her tone completely ungrateful and jarring.

Ironically, the 16-year-old who rules supreme as
TikTok’s biggest star, and was 500,000 followers behind from reaching the landmark of 100 million followers, has now lost exactly 1 million followers
after this video… (the reverse gear we were talking about.)

Another controversial
moment was when the star, along with her sister, was seen making faces and
gagging at whatever her chef Aaron May was serving.

There was even a point when her elder sister,
Dixie, rushed outside to throw up! Wow!

Dixie, whose attitude was undeniably more
detestable, has also been shedding followers, about 100,000 in less than 24
hours. She had 43.9 million followers, and after the controversial video she
now has 23.8 million followers, though these are nothing compared to her
sister’s.

Do they
really deserve this backlash?

Known for capitalizing on the short dancing
videos, the sibling duo had garnered unprecedented popularity and grew on to
dominate the TikTok charts. Today, the sibling duo, D’Amelio having the most
followers, emerged as one of the most influential stars on TikTok.

Apart from making TikTok videos, D’Amelio made her
feature film debut as a voice artist in the 2020 animated movie StarDog and TurboCat. She also has a YouTube
channel where she, along with her sister, makes videos about makeup tutorials
(baking, and trying out various video games online).

However, the duo is now the subject of backlash
and controversies because of their questionable behavior and attitude in their
recent family dinner video.

Fellow TikTok star, Trisha Paytas also criticized
the duo, calling them “disrespectful” and “bratty.”

Obviously, many influencers are expected to
display appropriate behavior that complies with morality, if nothing else…

after the backlash

As criticism began to mount online, the D’Amelio’s
older sister, Dixie, responded to the backlash on TikTok and justified how
people have taken her behavior out of context and insisted people to know ‘the
full story’ before criticizing and sending them hateful comments.

Charli, however, hasn’t responded to the
criticism yet.

The controversial video was the debut of their new
Dinner with D’Amelio’s series that

need to learn some basic table manners before making any more dinner videos!
