A rare illness linked to the Coronavirus is infecting children.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo spoke on Tuesday about the dangerous inflammatory Syndrome, linked with Coronavirus, afflicting children. As of now, 100 such cases have been reported, and three deaths have been observed.

So far, we know that the illness causes life-threatening inflammation in critical organs. More than half of the cases (57 percent) involve children between the ages of 5 and 14.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says that 52 cases have symptoms that overlap with the symptoms that are commonly observed in toxic shock syndrome and Kawasaki disease. Ten of these cases are currently being evaluated.

We’ve tragically lost a 5-year-old boy from New York City, a 7-year-old boy in Westchester County, and an 18-year-old girl in Long Island to this new illness.

“This is a truly disturbing situation. And I know parents around the state and around the country are very concerned about this, and they should be.” – Said Mr. Cuomo at his daily news briefing.

New York is fighting and making steady progress against this virus. Three upstate regions are slated to begin a gradual reopening by this weekend. Mr. Cuomo has emphasized on the significance of federal aid as the state recovers.

On the bright side, the number of people hospitalized in New York is decreasing every day. Gov. Cuomo has highlighted that the key metrics that is currently being monitored is the reduction in cases. They want to assess if the severity has actually diminished or not.

“We’re making real progress, there’s no doubt. But there’s also no doubt that it’s no time to get cocky, no time to get arrogant.” – He said.

Currently, the city officials are contemplating how they can revise New York City’s tourist trade without causing mayhem.

NYC & Company revealed on Tuesday that it was establishing the coalition for NYC Hospitality & Tourism Recovery. Lin-Manuel Miranda is apparently leading the gang.

Their task is to ideate plans for wooing people back in the city once the city emerges from the pandemic. However, the Broadway League have clarified that the members have canceled shows as far as Sept 6.

Charles Flateman, who is the chairman of NYC & Company and executive vice president of the Shubert Organization said that “It is time to consider how we can begin to reopen our doors and safely reconnect with our city and with each other, and with the visitors who will one day again flock to New York.”
