Patagonia’s founder does have some guts, and he isn’t terrified to get political!
The gear and outdoor clothing company has been an environmental activist for years, but since the world is going through extreme climate crises, Patagonia’s founder Yvon Chouinard feels it’s crucial to protest against climate deniers, holding positions of power… Quite bluntly!
Along with encouraging people and supplying election resources to vote, Chouinard has made his political stance clear as a bell with the “Vote the Assholes Out.” Slogan.
A photo featuring a clothing tag of Patagonia with this slogan has gone viral on the internet. Some believe it isn’t real; well, to their surprise, the tags are absolutely real!
Patagonia’s representative Corley Kenna confirmed the private news organization that they have added this slogan tag on their 2020 Men’s and Women’s Regenerative Organic Stand-Up shots.
The slogan has been there for a while but people have figured this late. The same slogan also found on a shirt while the sentiment explicitly put in place through Patagonia’s website.
Since that photo went viral, people have been praising the hell out of the company for its ballsy, bold and blunt political stance.
It’s worth mentioning, though, that the tag is not the only political action Patagonia has taken in recent years! In fact, in 2016, the brand donated every single penny they earned from its Black Friday sale to environmental NGOs. And in the following year, the company fiercely criticized Donald Trump’s decision to downsize two national monuments: Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante.
And more recently, in June 2020, Patagonia was one of the brands that removed ads from Facebook and Instagram as a protest to highlight the incompetence of Facebook to halt the spread of misinformation and hate on its platform.
One thing is clear now: Patagonia is not coming slow when it comes to making political statements publicly! We need more brands like Patagonia in the world who aren’t afraid to stand for what’s right!
