A group of white moms organized a Wall of Moms to act as a barrier between federal agents at black lives matter and demonstrators. This was, of course, a response to the presence of federal agents who were present at the Black Lives Matter protests in Portland. The Wall of Moms had so far achieved a lot of love across social media.

However, only a few weeks later, the group began to face allegations that it was anti-black. The community groups that raised these concerns were the Black-led social justice society as well as Don’t Shoot Portland.
On July 29ths, Don’t Shoot Portland posted on Instagram the aspects of the Wall of Moms that troubled them. They cited black members’ lack of safety precautions at the protests as well as an unsatisfied consultation from black leaders for filling business registrations. Sources claim that Don’t Shoot Portland and Wall of Moms was associated and had partnered up to make the arrangement more diverse and inclusive.

A couple of days ago, Wall of Moms had announced that they would position a Black Women in charge and allow Teressa Raiford to take the position of the administrator. She’s also the Executive Director.
The Wall of Moms wrote that their ambition is to heal the world from the white supremacy, racism, and legacies of colonialism. Hence, the group is dedicated to deepening the power of collective goals to end racism and correct the ongoing wrongdoings of the cruel world today and historically.

In the post, Don’t Shoot Portland urged people to stop supporting the Wall of Moms group as they feel its leadership is questionable and lacks representation.

The organization added that the improper protection from the leadership at the ongoing protests was questionable as the group was only worried because Barnum made with Oregon’s Secretary of State, three business registrations. All of this was done without the consultation and consent of the selected Black leaders.

Basically, they’ve suggested that Wall of Moms is a group that endorses the rights of the Black community, but in reality, it doesn’t even listen to the voices of the Black leaders present in its administration. This is hypocritical as well as opportunism.
Don’t Shoot Portland demands accountability and transparency from all these nonprofit organizations that claim to be anti-racist. After this fiery post from Don’t Shoot Portland, Wall of Moms tweeted that it supports the Black Lives Matter movement and is ready to reassess and regroup to do things the right way.
