The numbers are in and
they’re predictable as per the new analysis: White supremacists in the United States are responsible for the majority of the
terrorist attacks that have occurred in the last eight months of 2020. This
information has been derived by the nonpartisan think tank Center for Strategic
and International Studies.
According to research,
white supremacists who are the anti-government extremists from the violent
far-right, and some involuntary incels have conducted at least 67 percent of
all these domestic terrorist attacks. As mentioned above, CSIS has analyzed
this report from 61 incidents from Jan. 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020.
Terrorism can be
defined as a deliberate use of violence by non-state actors to achieve
political goals and create a broad psychological impact.
Therefore, incidents of
hate crime, protests, and riots were excluded from the research. So, the
researchers acknowledge hate crimes and terrorism are interlinked, but hate
crimes are not always violent.
During the protests
over the summer, many far-right terrorists targeted the peaceful protestors.
These people were against the Black Lives Matter movement (maybe Donald Trump too) and attacked with
vehicles to cause intimidation at the very least.
Far-left terrorist
attacks increased in 2020, whereas the far-right terrorist attacked stayed the
same compared to last year.
Although the violence
was high, only five people lost their lives, which is low
compared to past incidents.
Researchers warn us that,
in the coming years, this violence could increase due to the political and
social divide, the pandemic, and worsening economic conditions.
