Amidst the pandemic chaos, Bill Gates has made an important announcement. The co-founder of Microsoft has decided to step down from the board of the company.

He concluded this decision after realizing where his true passion lies. He now wants to dedicate his life to philanthropy. He’s been an open advocate of education and has actively participated in the fight against climate change and global health concerns. Hence, this decision didn’t come as a surprise to his followers.

He stepped down as the CEO of Microsoft back in 2000 to focus on the activities conducted by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. By 2008, he gave up on his full-time position and prioritized his philanthropic efforts above all. Hence, his decision to step down from the board stems from the same thought process. In fact, the press release has firmly stated that Gates wants to “dedicate more time to his philanthropic priorities.” Although, he will continue to provide his services as the technology advisor to the current CEO Satya Nadella, his role will be reduced significantly.

Bill Gates, the second richest man of the world, came from a humble background, and maybe that’s why he feels so strongly about philanthropy. At a young age of 31, he became the youngest self-made billionaire, but his approach and dedication towards work is still considered exemplary. In 2018, he was declared as the most generous philanthropist in the USA.

While making the announcement, Bill Gates stated: I am looking forward to this next phase as an opportunity to maintain the friendships and partnerships that have meant the most to me, continue to contribute to two companies of which I am incredibly proud, and effectively prioritize my commitment to addressing some of the world’s toughest challenges.

Satya Nadella, who’s been the CEO of the company since 2014 gave an ode to his mentor and friends in his official statement.

Bill founded our company with a belief in the democratizing force of software and a passion to solve society’s most pressing challenges. And Microsoft and the world are better for it. The board has benefited from Bill’s leadership and vision. And Microsoft will continue to benefit from Bill’s ongoing technical passion and advice to drive our products and services forward. I am grateful for Bill’s friendship and look forward to continuing to work alongside him to realize our mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.”

Bill Gates has earned an honest reputation in the world and we’ll forever be in debt of his revolutionary progressions.
