You may think of it to
be pretty obvious, but Apple literally just published a support page warning
against closing the laptop when the camera cover is in place. There’s no need to make fun of apple for this. They’ve said that
it could result in a cracked
display because “the
clearance between the display and keyboard is designed to very tight
tolerances.”
You may know about the
plastic covers that have a sliding mechanism. Well, do you know that they’re
bad news for your laptops? Considering Apple’s repairs are costly, it’s better
to get something that isn’t cheap.
Hence, as a
recommendation, Apple has suggested the green
LED
for the camera on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. “The camera is engineered so that it can’t activate without the camera
indicator light also turning on.”
Apple understands that
some employees are mandated by their employers to use the camera covers, so in
that case, it has advised to remove it before closing the laptop.
Furthermore, there are
cases when the screen of MacBook Pro has broken even when a very light pressure
is applied to close the laptop. If you don’t trust the light, then you should
instead, go for a strip of tape instead of a stick-on cover – it’s definitely
safer!
