Since the pandemic began, remote work has peaked across the world as many companies shifted their operations. Tech giants like Google and Zoom are constantly updating their features for virtual meetings to address the surge in demand. That includes Gmail’s Google Meet, the video-chatting software that allows you to “meet” with your colleagues, friends or family remotely.
You can find an added icon for the virtual meeting software right underneath the Gmail app’s compose option. This tool comes in handy for those who constantly hold virtual meetings, especially if they don’t have access to their personal computer on-the-go.
On the other hand, this tool is slightly inconvenient for those who don’t need to host or attend a lot of visual meetings. If you’re clumsy, you will probably find yourself constantly tapping this option accidentally and having to exit the Meet menu. Of course, it can get pretty annoying! It also hijacks half of the screen which previously displayed email previews.
But don’t worry, we have found a way out to get rid of this function! If you find this new Google Meet icon to be a headache than a delight, there’s a way to remove the video-chat icon. All you need is to log in your Gmail mobile app and visit the Settings menu.
Here’s how you can do it:
Step 1: once you have logged in the Gmail app, select the three-lined icon in the top right corner to access a menu.
Step 2: Scroll down and select settings
Step 3: Once you enter the settings menu, select your Gmail account name.
Step 4: Under General, there’s a toggle switch beside Meet. Drag it to the switch off position.
Voila, you’re good to go!
