2020 might be a crappy year for us, but not for SpaceX.

With its biggest achievement in 2020 launching the first crewed mission to the International Space Station, SpaceX is all set to bring the two NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug back to Earth.

The mission has been a success so far! However, the return trip is still a make-or-break for SpaceX’s crew dragon, as the spaceship is on the verge of completing its historic round trip.

The Crew Dragon is scheduled to splashdown in the Atlantic Ocean on August 2nd. The astronauts will depart the space station on the day (Eastern Time) on August 1st and eventually arrive on the Earth at around 3 p.m. on the next day.

The weather will be a major factor in the return date, according to NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine. The return trip will conclude a two-month stay on the International Space Station for Behnken and Hurley.

The two astronauts were incredibly busy conducting numerous spacewalks to swap out aging batteries outside of the International Space station.

Not to forget that the mission on which Behnken and Hurley are currently on is still just a demo test to prove that SpaceX’s Crew Dragon is highly efficient to transport astronauts back and forth to space. The trip to the ISS went well, but its biggest test is yet to be taken for its safe landing on Earth.

Crew Dragon is equipped with a suite of four parachutes, which means to smoothly lower the capsule into the Atlantic Ocean from where SpaceX’s special recovery vessels will pick the vehicle and astronauts safely back to the land.

If everything goes as planned, the landing will conclude the Crew Dragon’s first human test flight-called Demonstration Mission 2, or DM-2. Now, all eyes are on the crew Dragon if it’d be able to make it to the Earth safely.

SpaceX’s next mission of the Crew Dragon is currently scheduled for mid-to-late September and this time it will carry four astronauts to the ISS.

Hoping it all goes well! Let’s celebrate SpaceX’s greatest achievement with a SpaceX’s Tshirt, cap and yes obviously a mask. Elon Musk’s SpaceX is indeed shaping a new space future, you want to know how? Then grab a book called “Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future.” This book will satisfy all your curiosity for sure!
