Why Microsoft’s TikTok Deal Is a Poisoned Chalice according To Bill Gates

It
won’t be easy for Microsoft to acquire parts of TikTok claims Bill Gates in a
wide-ranging interview with Wired. He has even called it “poison chalice” as he
believes that making it big on social media is a tricky game. The competition
is critical on social media and it will be a fight for survival for Microsoft –
at least in the beginning.

Gates
says that it’s good now because Facebook will have some competition; however,
it’s equally bizarre as the Trump will kill off the only competitor.

Bill Gates
has a funny feeling about the way this TikTok deal is proceeding because Trump
has suggested the US Treasury will want some form of cut from whatever the acquisition is left.

He says that the cut is indeed strange yet, Microsoft needs to deal with all of it.

Yesterday
Microsoft had confirmed that it will go ahead with its deal with TikTok and
operate it in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. If rumors are to be
believed, Microsoft might even purchase TikTok’s global operations, but the conversations
are still in their preliminary stage.

Last
week, Trump said that he was going to ban TikTok almost immediately but decided
to extend the deadline till 15th of September so that Microsoft
could lock its deal, conclude the final acquisition, and avoid the app from
being banned in the US.

Even
though this deal is complicated, no one can deny that Microsoft will have a
comparatively bigger presence on social media.
