Exciting News For Aspiring YouTube Creators!

In a game-changing move, YouTube is shaking up the requirements to unlock the coveted monetization tools under the prestigious YouTube Partner Program (YPP).

The company is unleashing a wave of opportunities by expanding its shopping affiliate program to US-based creators who have surpassed the awe-inspiring milestone of 20,000 subscribers.

The recently announced eligibility requirements for the partner program by the Google-owned company include the following criteria:

  1. Accumulating a minimum of 500 subscribers
  2. Making at least 3 public uploads within the last 90 days.
  3. Meeting either of the two conditions:
    • Garnering a total of 3,000 watch hours in the past year.
    • Receiving 3 million short views within the last 90 days.

In the previous criteria, the requirements to qualify for the partner program were as follows:

  1. Maintaining a minimum of 1,000 subscribers.
  2. Meeting either of the two conditions:
    • Accumulating a total of 4,000 watch hours in the past year.
    • Receiving 10 million short views within the last 90 days.

If content creators fulfill the updated requirements, they are eligible to apply for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). Once accepted, they gain access to various monetization features, including tipping tools like Super Thanks, Super Chat, and Super Stickers.

Additionally, they can utilize subscription tools such as channel memberships and promote their merchandise through YouTube Shopping.

The inclusion of the three video uploads per 90 days, a requirement in the eligibility criteria, is an interesting aspect, as it may pose a challenge for creators of long videos who may not have sufficient material to produce multiple videos within that time frame, despite garnering millions of views.

But Where Does This New Evolution Apply?

Currently, YouTube is implementing these new eligibility criteria in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea. Subsequently, they plan to extend these requirements to other countries where the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is accessible.

In addition, the video-streaming company is broadening its shopping affiliate pilot program, allowing more creators in the United States to participate.

Creators who are already part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and have a subscriber base of over 20,000 will have the opportunity to tag products in their videos and shorts, enabling them to earn a commission.

YouTube initially introduced shopping-related features for Shorts to select creators based in the United States in November of last year.

YouTube will be unveiling and providing additional information about its upcoming programs during the upcoming VidCon conference scheduled for next week.

Back in March 2023, YouTube faced the need to revise its guidelines regarding the usage of profanities at the beginning of the video. In November, the company implemented a policy that resulted in disqualifying any video containing profanity within the first 15 seconds, regardless of whether it was an older upload.

However, as part of the new policy, YouTube has now reduced the time limit to seven seconds and permitted the use of profanity in music content.

The company owned by Google has been placing significant emphasis on introducing fresh monetization tools specifically designed for Shorts creators. In February 2023, YouTube initiated the practice of sharing advertising revenue with creators on Shorts.

Are People Really Lovin’ It?

In their Q4 2022 earnings call, the company proudly announced that Shorts had surpassed a staggering milestone of 50 billion daily views. In a similar vein, Meta (formerly Facebook) disclosed last October that Reels, spanning across Instagram and Facebook, accumulated a remarkable 140 billion daily views.

During the previous year, YouTube unveiled Creator Music, a tool aimed at enabling artists to monetize their music by granting permission for its use in videos. Subsequently, in March, the company introduced a fresh metric to monitor an artist’s impact across various formats, encompassing Shorts among them.

But, How Is It Benefitting Me?

Hey, you! Yes, you – get ready to dive into the captivating world of YouTube, where innovation and creativity blend seamlessly! As the Google-owned company continues to make waves, it’s not just about cute cat videos or hilarious challenges anymore.

YouTube is constantly evolving and introducing exciting features to empower creators and entertain millions of viewers worldwide.

One of the latest endeavors by YouTube includes the revamped criteria for the Partner Program. With reduced requirements, aspiring creators have a chance to join the esteemed ranks of YouTube Partners.

This means unlocking a treasure trove of monetization tools and options, including Super Stickers, Chats, channel memberships, and even the opportunity to promote their own merchandise through YouTube Shopping. It’s an all-inclusive pass to turn your passion into a rewarding career!

But YouTube doesn’t stop there! They understand the diverse needs of content creators, especially those producing longer videos. The three-video upload requirement per 90 days may seem intriguing, but YouTube’s commitment to accommodating different types and formats remains strong.

They recognize that some creators may have difficulty producing multiple videos within the given timeframe, despite amassing millions of views. Rest assured, YouTube’s ever-evolving platform aims to strike a balance between the requirements and the creative freedom of long-form content creators.

The Final Verdict

Expanding its horizons, YouTube is also unleashing the power of shopping with its unique set of programs. Creators across the United States, boasting over 20,000 subscribers and already part of the YPP, will soon be able to tag products in their videos and shorts, opening up a world of earning opportunities – imagine transforming your creativity into commissions while engaging your audience with captivating content.

Excitement is in the air as YouTube gears up to share more details about these groundbreaking programs. The upcoming gathering of industry professionals, creators, and fans promises to unveil more surprises and set the stage for the future of YouTube.

So, whether you’re a seasoned creator or just getting started, YouTube has your back. With innovative monetization tools, expanded reach through Shorts, and the fusion of music and video through Creator Music, there has never been a better time to unleash your creativity, make a splash, and ride the wave of YouTube’s boundless possibilities.
